Da Bears

You remember these guys, right?

Jason definitely does. And he has a mean impression of Bill Swerski dancing with Michael Jordan while singing 'Da Bulls da Bulls da Bulls da Bulls'. I've been humored with the jokes: "Who would win in a fight, Ditka or God? Trick question, Ditka IS God!". I even sat through the Superbowl Shuffle and found it vaugely exciting. But now Chi-Town love has been taken to a new level in this relationship.

Jason looks at me on Friday night and goes "So, how good are you at knitting?" My eyes raise in suspicion. "Pretty good", I reply, assuming that he was going to ask for another hat with some sort of White Sox emblem on it.

Of course I was still skeptical; I have previously tried to get him excited about a Noro Silk Garden hat (but look at the colors!!!!) and a super-soft broken-rib scarf (you can wear it with that blue jacket!), but he has never really shown a massive amount of interest until this very moment. And this scared me.

"Could you make this?" he asks and slides the laptop across the couch to me.

Yes ladies and gentleman, my boyfriend wants to become Mike Ditka. How bad does he want this? We promptly went to Michael's where he helped me select the right colors and then whipped out the plastic to buy about 3,000 yards of Navy, White, and Bright Orange Acrylic.

Pray for me.

For acrylic, Simply Soft is pretty nice to work with. And it gets even softer after you toss it in the washer & dryer.

Aw, how cute! He wants you to make him a Bears sweater! Acrylic will be good for him...he can handle acrylic. Won't shrink in the wash!

I fell out of my chair! that's hysterical! :)

At least simply soft is well, soft. And squeaks less... and lasts forever! (I have an afghan my mom made me in it years ago... very durable and soft)

Oh, that really is pretty sweet! At least you've caught his attention--you can work on his regard for natural fibers later!

When it's done, we'll probably see less of the orange polo shirt, huh? :)

Is it sad that I know that is from the 1984-1985 season when they won the Superbowl?

My dad had that sweater....

Lord help you. I'm hiding this from my husband, a die-hard Carolina Tarheel. I have no desire to knit an acrylic sweater in Carolina blue and white!

Hmmm...just beware teh curse of knitting a BF a sweater -- it's fallen on me twice...
perhaps if you make HIM buy the yarn it breaks the curse?

Hey Delia! At least your man will WEAR something knitted! Mine would rather be shot in the head. It used to bum me out, but I came to realize that I have way too many things to knit up for me and my daughter anyways, so it's probably a good thing.. Although I secretly want to knit him AT LEAST a skull scarf!
