I actually finished a sweater... Sort of.

Pattern: Shrug from Debbie Bliss Cathay
Yarn: Patons Brilliance, about 5.5 Balls (I think)
Needles Sizes: 7+9
The arms caps ended up whack because my gauge was probably off. I never bother to check such things! I think it turned out pretty well, I liked the looseness of the fabric and the fit except for that sleeve thing. Also, I wasn't impressed with the initial try-on but then again it was 10:30pm, with wet hair, and dark circles under the eyes. Will try again at a later date.
Second.
New Sweater Project

Specs in the sidebar. This is an outdated photo from last weekend; I've since finished that front piece, one sleeve, and am working on the second front piece. But check out that motif in the front - look familiar? Look closer...

Even the color is the same. Am I ahead of the trends or what ;).
I'm actually really digging the yarn, Dolcetto from the Joann's line. Doubled up, it would make a great cabled scarf. If I have leftovers, I may do just that (so far the back, 1 front, and 1 sleeve have only taken 3.5 balls out of the 8 I bought)
Third.
Here Today...

Gone Tomorrow

I broke down and got a ball winder. I can't believe I made it three years knitting and never bought one. That was Hot Lava and the disaster-of-a-sweater-I-was-making-up-as-I-went-along. I feel like new beginnings! Tentatively, those neat little yarn cakes will become a Kitty Pi for Viva and Somewhat Cowl, without the Cowl. Sounds wierd I know, but I have a vision. And if that fails, a Ball Winder.
That blue ball

Whoops.
On that note, it's become all gloomy and sad around here lately. I snapped this photo last weekend right before It started pouring buckets and a wind tunnel moved across the valley

It's only going to get crappier next week, but I'll be up in the Bay Area. Commuknity employees watch out, I'll be on the prowl....

Do you think the shrug sleeve caps will still be wonky after you wash/block? I think it looks pretty good. Love ballwinder. Hate cloudy weather...
Your blog is inspirational and entertaining! I think your latest projects look great.
I found your cabled, wrist warmer pattern a month ago and have already made 4 pairs! They are so fun!
I'm making my first sweater now, just a plain tunic, but plan to try some more stylish tops soon.
I just started my own knitting blog yesterday and will upload a bunch more stuff soon.
Will check back to see your updates!

Nice shrug! Have you washed/blocked it yet? could help the sleeves!
Here in China it was 78F yesterday morning and 46F now---and raining! Let's hope the rain stops for the two weeks my parents are here with me!
Have fun in the Bay Area!
I had the same thing happen when I tried to wind Alpaca Cloud. I ended up with one ball that was fine, and another skein that turned into 1 ball and 3 "ballettes".
