J is for Japanese Cooking

I'm a little bit obcessed with Japanese food. Hands down, it's my favorite 'type', and I could easily eat sushi every day of my life. Of course, neither my pocketbook or family members would allow me to do that, so I have spent the last couple years trying to perfect my skills in my own kitchen.

No, I'm not rigging up a Hibachi grill in the ol' apartment, but I'm pretty darn close to getting the rice just right and my tofu noodles kick some a*s. Seriously, an old roommate of mine got me a pound of Ahi as a birthday gift one year and it was the best EVER.

Ok, so that's another thing I miss about the Bay Area. Buying FRESH seafood right off the boat in Live Oak Harbor!

Is it lunch yet?

OMG I am so there with you. I mean my tofu noodles kick no @$$ but my soup base stock is nearing perfection.

I too could eat one form of japanese food or another every single day.

Now if I can figure out the perfect cut of beef to buy out here in the sticks to turn into shabu-shabu I'll be nearly happy. Fish? forget it. The only thing I miss about L.A. is the sushi and sushi grade fish.

I have but danced at the edge of Japanese food, with only a single trip to a sushi bar. But it was very tasty indeed. I need to get some braver friends to hang out with. :)

My DH & I had our first date at a Sushi bar (his choice) & right then & there I knew he was a keeper!

We try to have sushi a couple of times a month, but these Southern California gas prices are cutting into my sushi budget!!
