L is for Lamejun, Lavash, and Lamb

3 of my absolute favorite Armenian dishes.

This yummy food is just icing on the cake, because I am quite proud of this unique heritage of mine. Armenia is located just north of Turkey and Iran, and is considered by some to be one of the oldest countries in the world. My mom's mother (Nanny!) is 100% Armenian, and her family came to this country via boat to escape the genocide.

Fresno is a unique place to live when you are Armenian, because there is a very high concentration of people here and the traditions and culture are highly respected and practiced [note: one of my best friends got married in that church on this page!]. Fresno State also has a great degree program here on campus.

Usually when I tell people I am part Armenian, the typical response [if it isn't what the heck is that?] is "oh, is that Greek?". No, not Greek. Armo pride, baby. However, that movie My Big Fat Greek Wedding hits WAY too close to home sometimes. OPAA!

Hey! I am also part Armenian and I know what you mean about that greek thing. Although, I am quite removed from my Armenian heritage (my grandma's mother came escaping genocide) and I don't really "look" Armenian. Anyway, I just stumbled upon your blog while looking for fellow knitters! I'll probably come back...and a shout out for Lamejun...delish!

Thanks for sharing! I'll make a mental note NOT to ask the greek question. :)
