Karabella Cardi

Deb - thanks for your advice - very insightful. If anyone else is making this, she's got a lot of helpful photos about the assembly of this thing over on her blog. I'll wait until I have all the pieces sewn up before deciding on the fate of the collar - maybe if I can figure out how many stitches I would end up with, I can pick up that many around the collar. We shall see.

Here's the cardi as of 4/25/06 at 7:30pm

I finished off about 1/2 of the 2nd sleeve last night, and hope to cast on for the final front panel tomorrow. Despite everything, the actually knitting of this thing is going quite fast. I'm liking the Shine Worsted for this project. This is going to be a PERFECT beach sweater.

I noticed this yesterday when I was leaving campus. I've never seen them all out grazing during the evening communte. Yes, we have a full functioning sheep unit on campus. Cool, huh?

Well, you're welcome! I just figured that since there were surprises in there for me--it wasn't a straight-forward, ribbed yoke--it didn't hurt to pass some of that along (grin).

Oh, and this was the tip I got from Kristen before I sewed mine: "The instructions called for the yoke to be sewn on. Distressingly, there was a lot more sweater than yoke, so whatever method I chose, it had to incorporate a serious amount of gathering. It took a few tries before I discovered the final solution. I sewed the bound off edge OVER the sweater. For every bound off stitch on the yoke, I picked up three stitches from the edge of the sweater. Amazing how well it worked."

Because, I think said before the yoke was longer than the sweater, when in fact, it's the other way around--try the sweater on once you've got the second sleeve sewn in--you'll see why the gathering at the yoke is important!

You put me to shame, when all I do lately is knot socks. I am clearly A Giant Loser.

I've been planning on making the karabella cardigan too! I was thinking of st st for the sleeves too... haven't taken a good look at the pattern yet, but after reading what you've said about all your mods, I think should spend some time reading thru it before I start! looking forward to when you're all done with yours. :) looks great so far!
