Halloween, the Early Version

I'm up posting this at 6:30am because Matt had to leave for work at 5:45am. Normally, I would fall right back asleep, but ever since we watched Criminal Minds this week and the plot revolved around a serial killer who stalked houses in the CA Central Valley (where I live) that were less than 1 mile from the train tracks (again, exactly where I live) I've been a wee bit paranoid. So I got up, poured some coffee, started knitting on my sock, and decided to post.

It's actually amazing this morning - cool, overcast, smell of rain in the air, and QUIET. This is almost enough to turn me into a morning person. ALMOST.

Anyhow, last night we carved pumpkins.




Some of us did it the old fashion way with cheap plastic tools, and others took it up a notch.

But they all turned out great.


OBVIOUSLY, one of the Cat pumpkins is mine (VIVA!). The other is my sister's, in memory of our dearly-departed cat Frisky. Maybe her spirit will visit us tonight.

Stalk My Wine Bar

Heather over at Knitting With My Horses sent a message for a favorite wine list in like, August. It's been in the works since then, I swear!

First off, my general way at looking at wine consumption is if you like it, drink it. For example, Matt & I have no problem ordering the cheapest bottle of wine at our favorite swank restaurant because it's our favorite. In addition, one of my favorite everyday Chardonnays comes in a box from the supermarket. So if you like it, don't let the price tag or a wine snob tell you differently. I've encountered many of them in my time and I now actually get great joy in turning my own nose up at their 50$ bottles (except for a few that are TOTALLY worth it)

One other note is that I've really only begun to explore wine, and to this day I am somewhat limited to California wines. Hey, why go far and wide when some of the best is in my backyard?

A final word of advice is to try anything. What do you have to lose? A couple years ago I volunteered to pour wine at a local Greek festival and found out the Greeks make some damn good, if not unique, tasting wine. Probably would have never know that otherwise. So anyways, back to the list.

I LOVE champagne with food. Something about the sweetness initially lead me to think it wouldn't stand up food the way that the strong flavors and aromas in wine could , but oh was I wrong.

Faerie Tale Theatre was/is just awesome. My sister and I used to watch it ALL the time on our old TV and VHS player. The Snow Queen was my favorite. I think my sister liked Cinderella.

Anyhow after watching them again, I fell back in love. They really were as funny as I remember them! I'm showing my kids these some day.

So the weather around here has finally decided to shape up and ACT like October. 79 degrees today! It's totally Autumn around here! I'm wearing sleeves for the first time since like, May. I'm also craving comfort food like you wouldn't believe. Melted cheese on bread, oh yes.

Sock #1 has a heel. Only 5 more heels to go.

Wine Gardening

This past weekend my friend Peter recruited a few of us to work in the Wine Garden at the county fair:


PS... I knit my hat.

Lots of fun. I think I was born to pour wine. And as always after I do something like this, I have a renewed respect for bartenders.



We didn't really venture out of the Wine Garden area, just to get a couple fair tacos (my husband thinks I am NUTS but I love those things, and if you are from the Fresno Area you KNOW what I am talking about) and a gyro that I cut in half with a giant carving knife.

As for Socktoberfest, I've decided that since I work well under deadlines, I am going to attempt to knit 3 pairs of socks this month: Finish my Merlot socks, Something thick and warm for my husband, and some Noro socks. I might be crazy, but don't tell me and let me try anyway.



PS - Have you seen this? It's 5 seconds to a better day, I promise.

I finally started knitting again last night. Plus, it's actually below 90 degrees today so I'm starting to dream about fires in the fireplace and pumpkins on my doorstep.


My husband might kill me, but we will have lace pumpkins on our doorstep, oh yes we will.
