PLAY BALL!

Yesterday was Opening Day at AT&T Park and my dad, sister, and I were there as always.



However, earlier in the day, there was a grim outlook on the status of the game.



Before we left Fresno in the A.M., I checked the weather and there was a 100% chance on rain in SF. But we decided to head up anyways, joking the entire way that it probably just meant that the weatherman is a Dodgers fan.

Around Daly City, my hopes were low. The sky looked like it was about to explode and send 10 inches of rain down upon us. But we continued on to the park.

After grabbing beer and hot dogs, we settled into our seats and had to endure a few sprinkles. But by the 6th inning what did I see? Blue skies, smiling at me!



This just proves that YES, the weatherman IS a Dodgers fan, but God is a Giant's fan ;).

Say Yes to Grass

As always, I'm the last person to notice the new knitty is up. I do believe Tussie Mussie is my favorite, because I have a strange fasination with those little nosegay motifs. I have some Cashsoft DK that I've attempted to use in about 10 patterns to no avail, but would be perfect for this. I think I would do something different with the button bands as well.

But that's not what I am here to talk about. Woodins. Dude. They may be the next big cyber-knit thing. (Side thought: How fun would it be to stuff the whole thing with catnip and watch Viva go absolutely nuts?)

Anyway, that pattern took me to the designers website, where it took me about 1.5 seconds to fall in love with knitted grass. How cute would these little dudes be lined up in my kitchen window?

I would also like to see the look on Matt's face the day he comes home from work and has knitted grass living in his kitchen.

I've got the Chunky Print for Nan but no pattern, and the pattern fot the latter and no yarn (ideas, anyone? The recommend yarn is Garnstudio Silkee Tweed & Alpaca. I'd like this to function like a fleece vest for cooler days. I'd also like to knit it by July 28th so no long waiting periods). This also puts me out somewhere into 2010 with my knitting queue over at Ravelry.com.

Batter Up

I don't have much to talk about today that isn't wedding-related, and Thermal is still just a bunch of waffle stitch, so let's look at some more the 8,000 things I want to knit rightthisveryminute.

Norah Gaughan may have just made Berroco a shitload of money - her new collection is AMAZING.


What's even MORE trouble is that the yarn store that is 5 minutes from work and 5 seconds from the Bridal Shop where I am getting my dress carries all sorts of Berroco and I am sure they have this book. Must. Save. Money. For. House/Wedding!

From the Irish Hiking Scarf Knit Along: Ok, here is the pattern modification for the wrist warmers

EDITED TO ADD:
I used Cascade 220 (Worsted Weight) and size 8 (US) needles.

Note on gauge: I didn't do a swatch so I have no idea what it came out to, but I tend to knit a bit tighter than your average knitter.

PATTERN
Worked flat, then seamed up at the end.

Cast on 40 stitches.
Row 1. (WS) K1, P2, K2, P6, K2, P2, K2, P6, K2, P2, K2, P6, K2, P2, K1
Row 2. (RS) K3, P2, K6, P2, K2, P2, K6, P2, K2, P2, K6, P2, K3
Row 3. (WS) REPEAT ROW 1.
Row 4. (RS) REPEAT ROW 2.
Row 5. (WS) REPEAT ROW 1.
Row 6. (RS) REPEAT ROW 2.
Row 7. (WS) REPEAT ROW 1.
Row 8. (RS) K3, P2, C6F, P2, K2, P2, C6F, P2, K2, P2, C6F, P2, K3

Do 4 Repeats. On the 5th Repeat, work rows 1-5 (finish WS row)
Next row, begin ribbing
Work 8 rows of 1x1 Ribbing
Cast Off

EDITED TO ADD: Since I have gotten a lot a questions about what 'C6F' is, here is a bit of a clarification:

Put the first 3 stitches on the cable needle and let it drop in front of the work. Knit the next 3 on the kntting needle. Finally, knit the 3 you had on the cable needle starting with the stitch on the far right. I will try and take a few photos to clarify and post them when I can.

Begin seaming from the top. Seam the ribbed area, then leave a 1 1/2 inch hole for your thumb. Resume seaming using the mattress stitch to create the illusion of the double rib pattern (See photo).



Hope that makes sense. I am new at writing up patterns :)
