Back to the Kitchen!

Bowtie Pasta with Soy-Mushroom and Wine Sauce

Note: All amounts are approximate. I am a 'little bit of this, a pour of that' sort of a chef. I mentally tried to assign amount values after the fact.

1 package sliced white mushrooms
2 T. Light Soy Sauce
1 T. Lemon Juice
1 t. Sugar
1 T. Olive Oil
1/4 c. + 2 T. white wine
2 T. Alfreado Sauce
3 T. Pomodoro Sauce (or any other packaged sauce like Prego)
1 cup Bowtie pasta (more or less to preference)

Boil water and cook pasta according to package directions. Strain and place aside.

In a large saucepan, heat the oil over high heat and add the mushrooms, cooking until juices release (about 3-5 minutes, depending on the condition of your mushrooms). Mix Soy Sauce, Lemon Juice, and sugar in a small bowl. Add to saucepan and lower heat to medium-high. Cook about 3 minutes. Add 1/4 cup wine, cook for 2 minutes, then add alfredo sauce, stiring to mix. Lower heat to a simmer, then add pomodoro sauce. Let simmer for about 5 minutes.

IF the sauce starts to harden in the pan, add the 2 T. wine and deglaze. Gently add pasta to skillet and toss to coat.

Serves 2.

Serve with arugula salad and white balsamic vinegarette (olive oil, white balsamic, garlic, dijon mustard, salt and pepper).

Wine pairing: A light Chianti
Spulrge: Ruffino Chianti Classico Riserva '00
Steal: Piccini Wicker Toscano '01

In Celebration of my 1 year blogversary (thank you for all your lovely comments!), I started a project with my very first pair of needles:

That's a little baby hat to match the kimono. Never done color work... should be quite an interesting experience.

Ciao!

Happy 1-Year Blogversary to Me!
(damn that was close... only 12 minutes left in today!)

Lelah... You got me on my knees... LELAH!

First off, long over due RAOK thank-yous to Julie for the lovely paper crane (hanging out on top of my computer screen @ work!), and to Christina & Pamela for their wonderful e-cards. Such great stuff to receive when the rest of my life is so frazzled!

Frazzled life, yes. But I have finished objects!
Lelah

  • Pattern from Knitting For Boozehags (Brilliant!)
  • 2.5 Balls of Rowan Calmer in Khaki
  • Size 8 and 10 needles
    * I Followed the directions for the large size and added a few extra decreases in the back.

I love, love, LOVE this top. This is my favorite thing that I have knitted thus far. I threw it on over what I was wearing last night, but I think that I like the styling over another tank top. Wine & Needles is all about layering, you know.

Baby Kimono

  • Baby Kimono, in Summer 2005 Interweave Knits
  • Just over 2 Balls of Rowan Wool Cotton in Antique
  • Size 3 needles

Currently, I am still working on Da' Bears Sweater (Jess - it's for Jason, the resident Chicagoian in my life), that pink kerchief-thing. I think it's time to start something else; Something with cables, so I can be an active participant in Christie's Cable KAL. Anyone have any ideas?

Finally, because I can't think of anything else to write and I have a bunch of new photos fresh into Photobucket:

The "Girls Gone Wild Coozies" make a comeback!
My god-daughter, Lola the "triple-threat" Wonder.
Fun times in Capitola

I guess that's it. I've been wacked-out busy the last couple weeks, and I will say my ability to keep up with other people blogs and actually [gasp] leave comments has deteriorated to almost nothing. I'm still stalking reading away, but just sparing you all from my lack-luster comments until I return to my natural self. Because I'm better that way.

Ciao for now!

Playing House

I realize that I have let quite a lot of time go by since I last made an apperance on one 'wine and needles' website, due mostly in part to the fact that I have been in Fresno playing house for the week. Well, I have actually been working hard distributing about 900 viewbooks to potentials in the Central Valley, but I have been shacking up @ my mom's house and generally living the Fresno lifestyle since Saturday.

I'll be back to San Jo, my internet connection, and about 10,000 posts on bloglines on Sunday so until then...

Delia Does the Midwest

My creative genious for the 'Stupid Things Freshman Say' List has diminished, but instead I will post this VERY interesting list of the COLLEGE MINDSET FOR THE CLASS OF 2009. Yes, 2009. As in, born in 1987. Can you believe that in a few years, 90's babies will be hitting the college circuit! Yikes!

So I'm back in one piece from Ohio. Ohiya, as I heard it. The wedding was great and I got to hug a cow giant cow name Sterlina. Observe:
Kaci + Delia after a few glasses of Wine Delia and the Giant Cow. Moo.

I was going to complain about the horrible flight that I had but honestly, my problems are nothing compared to what a lot of people are dealing with right now. I am thankful that I was able to travel and safely reach my destinations, which is much more than some people have.

Knitting while gazing upon cornfields was a totally different experience from the frenzy of knitting on Bay Area public transportation, which I often do. Yes, I did enjoy my time in Wauseon, OH. Added bonus: I pretty much whipped out an entire Lelah in the couple days I was there:
Calmer...calmer....CALMER!

Of course, my girls are going to need a lot more stockingette to keep them covered, so she ain't quite done yet.

I've also been busy destroying the joints in my hands knitting on da' Bears sweater.
So how much do you think this stockingette is worth for say, a dinner at one's favorite oyster bar? ORANGE! My eyes!

I USED to be a major fan of Caron Simply Soft, but hot damn my fingers hurt after a few rows of this thing. If I wasn't *sorta* looking forwards to knitting the lettering on the front, I would be so over this thing. Yet I push on. Final cast on here I come!

So I have managed to get out of bed and do pilates before work 3 TIMES this week! OK, that may sound lame to some of you, but....
Delia + Mornings = Extreme Laziness

I am so pround. Especially when I would rather join Viva at the window fir her morning activities:
God, can I please be reincarnated as a cat?

Spoiled I tell you. Ciao!

Edited to Add:
There isn't a better reason to break a yarn diet: 10% of all proceeds from Webs (yarn.com) will go to help the vicitims of Katrina. Christie - make that Calmer a reality!
