I remember when TGIF meant Happy Hour here we come. Instead, both kids staged nap strikes this afternoon and my husband and I had to play good cop-bad cop to finally get Dom down.
So I'm not waiting until 5pm. Modern parenting at it's finest

Attempting to blog. // again.
Quite a lot has changed in my life since I started this blog in 2004. Back then I was single and living in the SF Bay Area, and chronicled my travels and daily life with quite a lot of detail. After getting married and having children, I have instinctively become more private. Couple that with staying home full-time with two little people (ages 2-almost-3, and 12 weeks) and I barely have time to pursue my actual hobbies, like wine and (knitting) needles.
Also, with the apparent "death" of the knitting blog somewhere around the time of the development of Ravelry, the knitterly things I wrote about on here became obsolete as I was recording such musings over there. And thus I've thought to myself, but what would I write about? With the emergence of an entire blogging culture, there are weblogs of every shape and size, every topic imaginable... I'm still very crafty, but all that's over on Pinterest now. Housekeeping and money-saving? Well I do that too, but not with any more gusto than the 11enty-million that area already out there. Fashionable? Ha. Would you want to look at posts about how I pared my husbands vintage Lakers t-shirt with Forever 21 leggings to hide my post-delivery baby bump? Let's just say I am very glad the messy bun became stylish in 2013, that's saved me lots of angst when getting ready (every 3 days) in the morning.
But I started reading my old posts a few weeks ago and I found that I am really glad that I kept them. I almost feel guilty that I did not have the same "diary" of sort for the first few years of Dominic's life, because lord knows there have been some days that made me cry which I would probably laugh at now. So there. I'm going to try and go back to that, good bad or otherwise. And we'll see where this goes.
So I'll start by talking about pants. or lack there of. Dominic is at a stage where getting dressed is SO DRAMATIC. And pants are SO HORRIBLE. Maybe once a week I can get him dressed without a screaming fit that might concern the neighbors. The other 6 days I just give up.

and let him wear legwarmers. Lazy parenting at it's best.
Danica, on other hand, is allowed to get away with not wearing pants.

As tom-boyish as I was for so many years, I'm trying to teach her at an early age that dresses are not evil. And since we live in a desert, embracing the dress will save her many days in agony at school because she fought with her mother to NOT MAKE HER WEAR THAT DRESS and instead leave the house in pants. When it's 105 outside.
In other life events, we celebrated my grandma's 85th birthday this week.

4 generations of women in my family now. I've been waiting since I found out we were having a girl to take this photo! Danica's middle name is Agnes, named for that gorgeous lady on the far left.

Happy Holidays!
Have you missed me? There's been quite a lot going on around here, with the biggest news being that we have a baby girl due in oh, 9 weeks!
Someday I might get back to blogging but for now, have a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

Gone just like that
In preparation for trying for baby #2, I committed harder than I ever have before to lose my post-college weight. It finally happened today - I'm at my lowest weight since 2002, 12 pounds lost in just over 2 months. I've got 3 more to go, but this is a big milestone.
In addition to watching what I eat and giving up (most) of my nightly glasses of wine, I've been running two miles a day 4 days a week. And I hate running. Well, used to hate running, now I just slightly dislike it. Especially since my college jeans fit again.
Go me.

Walk down video memory lane
For some reason I spent the morning u-tubing some of my favorite 80's videos. I hope Dom grows up and loves this stuff as much as I do.
Forgot about George's solo in the middle of that one
Totally don't remember that one being so morbid.

Nothing much to say, but I just love this photo of Dom at his buddy Luke's 1st Birthday party.

365: 02/12/11
I got to spend an evening in the old college stomping ground, Santa Barbara, this past weekend. My friend who was with me was an alum as well, and we couldn't stop talking about how lucky we were to go to school there. Don't get me wrong, I had to claw my way in to UCSB so I was always incredibly appreciative to be there, but there's nothing like driving out of the central valley smaze (smog+haze) in the morning and seeing this view at night. Trust me, it was even more awesome in person (especially since we were accompanied by chardonnay and oysters).

We baptized Dominic this past Saturday. As you might remember, I myself was baptized into the same church a couple years ago, and we were able to use the same cross (which was his dad's from HIS baptism 33 years ago) again for him.
His godparents are our friends Peter and Demitra. Peter is the kind of godfather who will teach him how to pick out a fine champagne, and teach him to drive stick shift in a Rolls Royce.

On the Move
I wasn't there to actually see how this happened because I was washing bottles in the kitchen. All I know is that I was gone for maybe a minute, and this is where I found him. Not only did he start on his big fleece blanket on the other end of the room, but he was also facing the other direction.
He's not actually crawling either, so he covered some serious ground scooting and/or rolling.
Matt, I think it's time we invest in some baby gates!

If I had to pick a last meal, it would probably be a slab of fresh ahi. Matt brought home a pound of it last night because I was having a bad day. Does this man know me or what. I turned it into a Poke with green onion, sesame seeds, garlic, soy sauce, rice wine, and lime juice. DELICIOUS.

Proof that I still knit: Calorimetry in Berroco Pure Merino. Soft and squishy and perfect for my new "mom" hairstyle of a messy bun on top of my head.
What's more, I actually knit this in one day. But let's be honest, it was because Dom napped like a champ yesterday. I'm still a pretty slow knitter!

365 Project: 01/05/2011
We got Dom this vTech "trainer" laptop for Christmas. He freaking LOVES it. I don't know if he's mimicking mommy when she's on her laptop, but he'll actually play with this thing for more than 10 minutes which beats all records held by his other toys.
Also: Dom is modeling his BabyLegs legwarmers, which are awesome: No taking off pants to change diapers! And since the introduction of solids, there has been a LOT of that going on.

365 Project: 12/31/10
The New Year is here, and I am going to try something new that might help me blog more often. I am going to try the 365 days of photos project, and will attempt to post them here are well.
Matt and I said goodnight to 2010 with take-out sushi, fancy champagne, and the crystal flutes from our wedding. It was a quiet, perfect night.
2010 is going to be hard to beat: Our son was born, all 3 of our siblings got married, the Lakers AND the Giants won their respective championships, I've had the opportunity to be a stay-at-home-mom. But definitely looking forward to what lies ahead.

Dom @ 5 Mo.
So
apparently I wrote this up a few weeks ago and never posted it. Doh! Dom is now 6.5mo, but who's counting?
Eats: Approx 30-34oz
formula/breastmilk per day (5-6 bottles) + 2 oz solid foods (prunes + a veggie, we just started this but he LOVES the sweet potato)
Sleeps: Approx 13-14 hours, Longest night-sleep averages 7-8hrs (shortest 5hrs, longest 11.5hrs), 3 daytime naps
Pumping: 6-8 oz per day. I'm weaning myself off...
Weighs (@19 weeks): 15.4lbs/45% percentile (+9lbs from birth)
Height (@19 weeks): 25.5 inches /50% percentile (+7.5inches from birth)
Head (@19 weeks): 17.5 inches /90% percentile (+4.5inches from birth). Yes, Dom has a GIANT head. Runs in my family!
Typical Day @ 5mo:
6:45-7:00am - Wake up, hang out with mom and dad in bed.
7:30am - 8oz bottle / playtime in Exosaucer
8:15-8:30am - Nap #1 (approx 45 minutes)
8:30am - Hang out while mom does chores
10:00am - 2 tsp solids (prunes) mixed with reflux meds (YUM), + 4-6oz bottle
10:30-11:00am - Nap #2 (varies from 40 minutes - 2 hours)
Afternoons vary based on nap #2, we usually run an errand or go on a walk in the Bjorn
3:30-4:00pm - 6-8oz bottle, Nap #3, sometimes in the swing if he's being especially fussy (15 minutes - 1 hour)
5:00pm - Playtime with Daddy, 4-6oz bottle
6:30pm - 2-4 tbl solids
7:00pm - Bathtime & 6-8oz bottle
7:30-8:00pm - Bedtime
Sometimes he'll wake up for a bottle at around midnight if he hasn't eaten at least 30oz during the day. Dom has never been a big eater, I'm actually shocked he's taking 8oz bottles at all! He still cluster feeds after 3pm, taking bottles every 2-3 hours instead of every 3-4 in the morning.
He takes 1 great nap a day in the late morning, but is a HELLCAT after 3pm. It's almost impossible to get him down for more than 20 minutes. I used to fight it and spend 2 hours trying to get him to sleep, but since he's now sleeping so much at night I'm letting him stay up if that's what he wants. Makes putting him down at 7pm that much easier!
