Squeaky Clean

I was reading Grumparinas blog about sniffing yarn when I got the urge to stick my nose in the middle of the Claudia's Handpaints yarncake from the Jaywalkers I am currently working on. I almost puked.
For some reason, the yarn smells like dishwashing liquid. I am at a complete loss about why this is, since I don't ever recall the yarn being around such a substance.
It's driving me crazy but now I can't stop smelling it and immediately being repulsed. Has anyone else encountered this? Is it my mis-handling or can it be the dye/process?

April Showers Bring May Sweaters

So I am really digging this sweater from the new Knitty, and I'm not sure why.

Anatolia!

1) I have knitting A-D-D and knitting a sweater on size 2s seems like a set-up for failure.
2) I have a bunch of yarn already stashed for upcoming progects, and this would require purchasing more. I am only allowing myself 1 major tax-refund purchase until the end of the summer, so I need to be smart here.

But I do know this: I love slip stitch. And I love colorwork. And I love that cute little diamond motif, but just once on the back, the rest of the sweater in the basic pattern. I'm thinking blues + violets, making use of the recycled Rowan 4ply in Bluebell in my stash. Argh. I will lose sleep over this.

Also - Have any of you had an experience with knitting sleeves from the top down? Reversing the shaping and such? I am about 2 balls short of yarn for Aline, so I have shortened the legnth of the body, and figure I will need to do the same with the arms. My thought process was to start at the sleeve caps, then keep knitting down the arm until I run out of yarn. Someone PLEASE tell me if this is a tradgically bad idea.

Currently Missing: 1 Pattern for the Karabella Cabled Cardi. I have a bad feeling it jumped out of my bad somewhere between here and San Francisco on Opening Day.

G is for Giants

G is for Giants

I love baseball. LOVE it. And of course, in my opinion there is one truly great team that I will root for until I die.

I come from a long line of Giants fans including my dad and grandpa, so I pity the fool who has another team in mind when he comes into our little circle (i.e. my sisters boyfriend, an A's fan).

I am going to sorely miss the ability I had in the Bay Area to jump on the CalTrain at a moment's notice to go to mid-week games. A couple beers, a hotdog, and serious heckling of the opposing team was BY FAR the best way to spend an evening. Unfortunately, I now have a 3 hour haul to the park, so at least for now, this fantasy has to be lived out via the television.

My dad, sister and I go to Opening Day every year as a little father-daughter bonding, something I am sure we will continue doing for a long, LONG time. There's nothing like ditching work for the day for some baseball, yah know? Hopefully this will go on to include OUR kids & future Giants fans someday. Love them or hate them, you really can't argue with PacBell, SBC, AT&T Park (Lesson learned: Never name a ballpark after a telecommunications company!).

Till then, I'll just keep talking smack and making outrageous bets with Dodgers fans about how far superior my team is. Heh. ;)
